Monthly Assignment for May – HDR
Friday, April 16th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Our next monthly assignment for May will be HDR (High Dynamic Range).
WIKI
HDR – In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.
The two main sources of HDR imagery are computer renderings and merging of multiple photographs, which in turn are known as low dynamic range (LDR) (also called standard dynamic range (SDR) photographs.
Tone mapping techniques, which reduce overall contrast to facilitate display of HDR images on devices with lower dynamic range, can be applied to produce images with preserved or exaggerated local contrast for artistic effect.

We’ll be back on our normal schedule for our April meeting and our monthly assignment is “OOOPS”!That’s right! We need a little humor in our chosen profession to relieve some of the stress that comes with it. Whether from long hours of editing photos or the stressful wedding that you have to shoot or just those bratty little ones that won’t cooperate when doing children portraits. All that can be very stressful! So, start digging through your archive and find that one picture that made you grin every time you look at it and said, Ooops, I can’t believe I took that! Whether it was a bad angle or bad timing when you pushed the shutter or the cheerleader being ran over by the whole team when they ran through the Banner. Anything funny that tickles your funny bone. You get the idea. Note: Completely black image because you forgot to remove your lens cap doesn’t count!
Our Speaker for April will be Jose Yau. He is an award winning photographer based out of Waco, TX. He is the owner of Jose’s Photography an official photographer for the Heart of Texas Pageant and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. He is also known for his sports photography.
Photography After Dark a half success!

Our last meeting turned out great even though our supposed Photographing in the Darkness of the night didn’t happen because of the thunder storm, we still managed to have a good turn out. We took turns photographing our model (Holly) instead with the different backdrops inside the studio. Marc Bailey showed few of his posing tricks. Bruce Croft of Ark-La-Tex did a presentation about the Green Screen technique and the production workflow. Hopefully we get do this again soon because I know that some will benefit from it specially those who are not used to photographing at night.
